The Ultimate Legend

The image above is a wonderful R&B singer by the name of Sade. The image includes a brown dissolved background. Sade has both of her hands together as if she is praying. Planted on her face is a sign of seriousness. The main idea of this image is to take pride in yourself, learn how to be confident and fierce. I think this is the message, because knowing the facts about her and her history behind her music and the message her music sends to people. You would automatically think that her message in this image Is to be confident, fierce and have pride in yourself and what you do. Live, laugh, and love. I think this message is important, because you only live once like Drake said, so why not learn how to love endlessly, love yourself and gain confidence.

Benefit Debate

I’m Black and I Want More “Stuff” and “Things”: An Open Letter to Bill O’ Reily an article written by an high school teacher in Seattle reacting to the words of Bill O’ Reily. The point of the article was that minorities would automatically vote for Barack Obama, because we “want things". A president who is willing to present minorities with certain benefits. Bill also stated that America isn't as traditional as it was. I believe this is, because a president of color was brought into office. The message is important, because everyone is entitled to their own opinions to a certain extent. A certain extent, because basing a president on the number of votes received, because the president is a minority and minorities are willing to have a president of color in office is a bit absurd. Keeping in mind of the limits of your opinion is important. The article presents the message in different meanings. The article can be taken in a negative thought or a positive. Depending on how the audience would like to interpret it.

Act Fearlessly

In the following picture there are 5 males. Three of them are African American and the other two would be defined as Asian or Mexican. All of them are sitting in a line with a background of a concrete wall. They all look fearless with anger printed in their eyes. A logo is printed across their faces which repeats,” What you looking at”. The main idea of the image is to be and act fearless regardless of your race. I believe this is the message, because I see two different races who are united and seem like they won’t let anyone regulate what they do. Standing up for their rights as a whole. This message is important, because sometimes people can take your kindness for weakness. Trying not to let it bother you until one day you explode. It’s good to stand up for yourself and not let others run over you. Acting fearless as well as being courageous and confident in yourself.

I Am Nobody's Nigger

In class we watched a video called I am Nobody's Nigger. The video included poetic phrases which helps the audience  realize what the main point was. The main point is being mindful of the history towards the phrase as well as using it.

Is it wrong to call someone a nigger? Does it make it OK for African Americans to call one another a nigga,? These are Questions I had during our decision in class. After reading and viewing the YouTube video I Am Nobody’s Nigger I have a better outlook on the phrase and wonder why people seem to call one another that name without second guessing or thinking of the history behind that name. I don’t use the word nigga or nigger, because I feel it’s degrading to my race, it’s disrespectful and I feel that I’m feeding off of slavery by using this term. I say feeding off of slavery by using this term, because blacks were called that name before they were beat end, hung, or raped. Saying this term makes me feel like accepting my ancestor being called a nigger and that’s why I don’t say it.

I don’t believe that nigger and nigga are two separate phrases. I don’t see a difference in using the two phrases it’s the same meaning to me. The definition of nigger is slang, meant to define a dark skin black person. This is the definition I found on dictionary.com. When you think about the definition and how it was used back then you come to the conclusion that it was meant for to degrade dark skin people. My question is why use it? Regardless if it’s slang 50 years later?

The Power The Media Can Have: Doll Face

Today in class we watched a YouTube video which includes how the media impacts lives. The video was made to show how far a person would go to look beautiful. Being accepted in today’s society has impact one’s self confidence. The media mostly impacts young adults. Many young adults want to look as good as the women on television, many may feel that they need to look a certain way to be accepted in today’s society. The media provides products which can make you look and feel beautiful. When you look around all you would see is beautiful airbrushed women who have silky straight hair, smooth skin, clean and clear faces and this impacts a lot of young adults, because they might wonder why they don’t look like that and may want to make some changes to their body regardless of the price. This relates to Adults as well who are influenced by billboards and want to do whatever it takes to change who they are. Plastic surgery is a big topic for many adults. Breast Implants can play a huge role, according to the MTV show True Life.

I am not influenced by today’s society, or beauty tends, however I have people around me who are. Everyone is born with different identities and features which makes a person who they are. I feel you shouldn't have to do certain things like: getting lip injections to fit into today’s society, because that’s not who you are or what you were born with.
